I did not check the syspref ;-)
All I know is that it is unneeded in the pulldown.

By the way, a way to defining the indexes to display in the pulldown on
advanced and simple search (on staff and opac) could be interesting too. I know
it could be done in jquery, like other stuff, but I would prefer a config page.
