Hello,

I am something like that in my patches queue.
The way you do that will work but will certainly introduce side effect.
For ex. in acqui/orderreceive.pl: 
  $results = SearchOrders({
    ordernumber => $ordernumber
  }) if $ordernumber;

The search on the parent ordernumber has to be done explicitly.
