I would also suggest considering

this. There are times you don't want to allow this feature to change the date.
For example, we have a bookmobile that visits a location once a month. There
needs to be a way this shortened due date can be overridden on the fly, or
perhaps an issuing library can ignore this rule in the circulation rules.
I know this is an entirely separate functionality, but I think it should be
kept in mind for something to work towards as this is being worked out.
