On (not completely) unrelated subject: I think it would be quite beneficial to
have some general-purpose utility function for: fetching + spliting + checking
& (optionally) de-duplicating system preferences which are in
'value1|value2|...' form. Unless there already is such a function available
somewhere, which I'm not aware of?
