Maybe the current date format could be displayed in the alert message?
Something like:

alert(MSG_PLEASE_ENTER_A_VALID_DATE '('+ dateformat + ')');

I found following place without validation:

Go to Detail of a patron with hold(s)
Select Tab Hold
Date field near "Suspend all holds until" allows wrong date format, e.g.
"12345678"
