This problem from comment 10 is still a problem:

* Major problem: 

- EnhancedMessagingPreferences = allow
- Create a new patron from scratch 
- Change the category from the default one
- Firebug reports a 500 error for /cgi-bin/koha/members/default_messageprefs.pl
