Jonathan, given this, I would be more than happy to add a warning to the system
preference about possible performance issues. The other option would be to go
back to my original patch set where the last patron to checkout an item was
stored in a new database column. That would give us the same feature without
the performance issue.

Please let me know which choice you think is best:
A) Add performance warning to syspref
B) Switch back to the original patch set ( using a new db column to store the
last borrower to check out an item )
