Very useful enhancement Martin! It is exactly what we need too :)

One small suggestion: An extra line that defines dbh is probably required in
the beginning of checkpw_shib in case _autocreate has to be called
(ie something like: my $dbh = C4::Context->dbh; )

Other than that it's working like a charm for me!
