I am not very comfortable with the dependency as it doesn't include a lisence
statement right now and there seems no way to trace it back to an author. Could
we replace this with our own code or some other plugin?

Some of the other problems went away after making sure my browser cache was
cleared. But I still see a problem when both cart and list are turned off: the
text "browse selected records" still shows up, but there are no checkboxes to
select a record.
