Of course, adding a "metadata" table might not be a great idea, because it
would be "yet another place" that we store metadata.

There's already biblioitems.marcxml (and the soon to be removed
biblioitems.marc), Zebra, biblio/biblioitems/items relational fields. 

I think "metadata" might be a good idea as a long-term shift, but it might be
met with resistance in the short-term. 

That said, if we're going to move away from MARC, surely we need to start
transitioning to infrastructure which is independent of MARC. 

But that's why I think we need community discussion and a decision (not
necessarily consensus) on the best way to proceed.
