Yes! That is probably a better idea! I was suggesting on bug 12897 that we use
ranges for all date indexes, and I think that would be the way to do it. 

What's the best way to move forward? Should I provide an alternative patch?
Perhaps Barton can sign that one off, and Jonathan you can still QA?
