Ok, just saw the comment about the date format:

Koha/ElasticSearch.pm
185             # TODO be aware of date formats, but this requires pre-parsing
186             # as ES will simply reject anything with an invalid date.

We would pre-process the data at this point, if a "plugin is linked to" (to
define) this field.
