You say that tinyint would be more appropriate, and I agree. The good news is
that they also are tinyint's already! The 4 is just some display stuff in
mysql. Tinyint on MySQL goes from -128 to 127. The -128 takes 4 display
positions. A value like 3 will be left-padded with 4-1=3 spaces.
