Personally, I'd use JSON as both Postgres
(https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/static/datatype-json.html) and MySQL
(https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/json.html) have pretty extensive
support for marked performance gains using JSON typed fields.
