I think the aim of this patch was to allow sysadmins to set a default value to
the number of days that should be used in the script while still allowing them
to call a custom number of days directly from the command line. Right now, this
is exactly what it's doing. It only changes the "days" parameter if the system
preference is set, and if both are set, the script will use the value received
from the command line.

My point is that I am not sure that I understand the problem in your scenario,
could you tell me whats wrong?
