To reproduce:

- Go to Home > Administration > Item types administration 
- Edit an item type
- Click 'Translate into other languages'
- Add a translation
  - Bücher turns to Bücher

- Edit a translation
  - Enter Bücher as translation
  - Result: String turns to Bücher

  - Enter Bande dessinée
  - Result: Bande dessinée
