I think the patch looks ok, meaning it makes sense. But we really need a small
regression test, to make sure we are actually fixing the issue in the right
place and not because of a collateral change of behaviour.
And also because that's how we do it.

So, in order to help I need to ask: what is the hypothesis for the bug?
Answering that will make it easier to write that regression test.
