Thanks Katrin,

I upgraded Koha in a standard way from release 16.06 to release 16.11:

  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install koha-common


When the upgrade process finished the command line echoed this message:

  Error: the selected language is already installed. Try --update if you want
to re-install it.



Koha now runs only in english and the spanish language in syspref is missing.

Sadly I have no more information.
