I've uploaded a refreshed patch freshly based against master.

I've not written a test for it yet - I wasn't sure whether this was actually
what people wanted here (and to split out the removal of paidfor as a separate
bug) or not.. so it's more of a proof of concept at this point.  A test should
however be pretty simple should we want to follow this route.
