Accidentally doing this myself right off the bat, I am going to fail this,
simply because you can set an itemtype to be a parent of itself.  I don't know
if it will cause any problems or not, but this probably should not be allowed
to happen.  Just in case.  Unless you can guarentee it will not cause a problem
it is done by mistake.
