The "missing label" thing means that when you click on the label of the
checkbox, the checkbox does not check/uncheck.

The first question is: Are we suppose to merge open and close invoices?

The "Merge selected invoices" button is inside the "open invoices"
fieldset/block.
However, if you select invoices from the "open invoices" and the "closed
invoices", the merge button will work. IMO it's ergonomically wrong.
