Hm, we tested an 18.11.16 package with Kyle's patch but the Editor is now gone:

ReferenceError: tinyMCE is not defined
tinyMCE.baseURL = "/intranet-tmpl/lib/tiny_mce";

Not the result I was hoping for to fix our issues :(
