I completely forgot to add why I brought the patch up. The reason being that
it's hard to fix the issue without exposing other bugs as mentioned in comment
#13. It would probably be better to perform a more thorough refactor, but then
there is the issue that we already did that but does not have a clean patch-set
to contribute. Perhaps I will have to take the time to go through our current
patch and verify that the current options are still supported and the script
behaves in more or less the same way, so no or minimal API breakage.
