[Koha-devel] Branches in Koha

Good Day to all,
Since I do not have a working version of Koha, can anyone explain to me how 
branches in Koha work?
I mean the template files say that a user can choose a preferred branch to 
pick up a reserved book...is there an exchange protocol specific to Koha that 
allows for online updates pertaining to who, where and what book was reserved 
and is waiting for a patron?
