[Koha-devel] New Koha Logo

Logos are copyright too ...

What I think you should do is look at how Tux is licenced - he's
copyright too. Larry's page on Tux is
http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/. I thought the licence actually
said something about promoting linux - maybe that got dropped possibly
by accident.

And if anybody remembers the MS ads about how linux can mutate (c't
magazine put them on the web for people to laugh at :-), did you wonder
why the four penguins weren't take-offs of Tux? Because MS would have
got slammed for copyright infringement if they'd tried.

Larry's page on Tux is http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/. I thought

got dropped possibly by accident.

Actually, you might like to tie in with Paul Poulain's idea and say that
the logo is copyright, but may be freely used and reproduced either with
pukka Koha or by organisations that are part of Paul's "GIE".

That way, you will end up a little bit like RedHat/WhiteBox linux - the
two are identical but without RedHat's permission you can't use the name
or Fedora, so you're both being true to Free Software's spirit - letting
the software go free - but you're also protecting the name and logo of
Koha - just like Linus protects the trademark linux and linux
distributors protect their trademarks etc.

Cheers,
Wol

I need some help on the whole "what license thing" - the situation I'm
least keen on, is say the "egg" being associated with some other
product/company name - ie becoming dissociated from Koha and attached to

something else. IS that covered by the GPL type license?

And I really wouldn't like the egg and the koha text to say be taken
over by say www.koha.com - which I'm pretty sure is a bunch of hockey
players. SO is that covered as well?

I'm completely calm with the logo being used in whatever medium etc for
the promotion of Koha - and changing colours/sizes - sticking in/over
things etc is all fine (although I'll let you know if I see one that's
ugly :-)

SO I'll take your advice/thoughts on that. Am I being paranoid? Is this

achievable etc etc.

I'm not interested in protecting the logo for *katipo* but I really
would like to protect it for *koha* - does that seem possible?

Cheers
Rachel
