The most common practice that I know of is to order pre-printed library
cards from a vendor. When you add a member, give them one of the cards and
input the number from the back as the card number, rather than using Koha's
automatically generated card number. Koha can print patron cards for you,
but they are fairly basic.

Most of these vendors allow you to customize the card thoroughly (add your
logo, etc). Would this work for your library?
