When I last installed some other web app on a 1and1 server, I don't
think it offered enough access for a simple Koha installation.  That
was a couple of years ago, but most providers are reducing access, not
increasing it.

Some other hosting companies do work, as pointed out above.  As well
as Linode, I suspect slicehost might offer enough access, but I've not
tried it.  As well as particular perl modules, it's much easier if you
have access to a vhost.conf or similar file.

Did you know that at least three of the Koha support companies offer
specialist Koha shared hosting, mine included?  Check that it's real
Koha and that you can download the exact same source to run on your
own server if you want, though.
