Australian National Bibliographic Database (ANBD) by the National Library.



Over 1,200 libraries work together and contribute to the ANBD, which is the
heart of Libraries Australia.  The ANBD continues to grow and support the
workflow of Australian libraries. It now has:



?         over 25 million bibliographic records;

?         over 50 million holdings; and

?         over 17.5 million searches during 2012/2013.

Hi Moyra

I use a TSC TTP-244 Plus thermal transfer printer and love it!!

I did quite a bit of research into using label printers like the ones you are talking about and found that if they are thermal direct printers (which a lot of those style printers are) then they will fade with heat and the sun/light as well as time. The thermal transfer however, uses a ribbon to print and as such don?t fade.

The article is about 10 years old, but many of its points are still relevant.

With my printer I am able to print both spine labels as well as barcodes and pretty much anything else that I can think of. It connects directly with KOHA and all my other programs, but Also has its own software that is quite easy to use.

My favourite way to use the printer is to do my cataloguing using the Chrome browser and using Firefox for circulation as that doesn?t have the funny little quirk that Chrome has when printing a quick slip in circulation. Chrome retains the settings for the individual printers and I don?t have to reset the print options for the labels like I do with the other browsers.

Hi Moyra,

I use the Brother QL 570 for my spine labels, barcodes and other labels and
it's great.

I don't generate labels from Koha but the printer comes with a software
package that enables you to set up the labels in the way that you'd like
them to print. I just cut and paste from Koha for my spine labels and it's
quick and easy. I keep a running spreadsheet of barcode alpha-numeric
'numbers' and the programme creates the barcode from each number.

The printer doesn't require ink and I've tested the labels by leaving them
directly in the sun for a few weeks and they didn't fade or discolour. I
don't know how they will go over time but we cover them with
archive-quality label protectors which should help preserve the labels.

The best thing about the printer is that it cost me $50 and the refill
rolls are inexpensive and last for a long time.

The printer would not be practical for a large library, but it is adequate
for our small library.

Our museum library has been using the Dymo Labelwriter 450 for Cutter
number spine labels. However, we use cut and paste from the Cataloging
screen to the Dymo 8 software for each media object. We also print our own
bar codes using the Dymo 8 software.

If you find a way to use the Dymo directly with Koha, I am interested in
learning how.
