The funding was secured rapidly, work was started today and I am told "good progress is being made". I paste below the series of emails that show what can be achieved in a community like ours. Apologies for cross-posting these emails if you have already read them on the general Koha e-list. If you have a development requirement for your library or resources centre and you think it might be of interest to others as well, let us know and we will happily help you look for support in the wider Koha community. Many thanks to the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, Region Halland libraries (Sweden), South Taranaki District Libraries (NZ), NZ Education Institute and Libriotech of (Norway) for your contributions. Apologies if it is a duplication. The Library Stars 2014 forum showcases public libraries, recognizes their successes, achievements and inspires library practitioners to greater heights. The one day forum on 15 September 2014 at the Library @ The Dock, Melbourne, will be hosted by the Public Libraries Victoria Network as a satellite event to the ALIA 2014 Conference: Together We are Stronger. The keynote speaker is Marie Ostergaard, Project Manager, Aarhus Public Libraries, Urban Mediaspace Aarhus ? New Central Harbour Square and Mediaspace, City of Aarhus, Denmark. The presentations should be very interesting and highlight great examples of innovation and excellence in Australia as well as hearing about the largest public library in Scandinavia project "Urban Mediaspace" Irma http://calyx.net.au ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Karen Ward-Smith Date: 18 June 2014 09:38 Subject: [aliaPUBLIC] Library Stars 2014 - REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN To: "aliaPUBLIC at lists.alia.org.au" *Karen Ward-Smith* Executive Officer, Public Libraries Victoria Network Inc. I offered with some tentativeness as I am the least technically minded of people. However I appreciate all the work Moyra has put into setting up our Koha group in Melbourne so I felt I would have a go. The Athenaeum Library kindly said they would continue to host the meetings as they offer such a central place. Irma and Bob Birchall are attending the forthcoming ANZTLA Conference July 2nd - 5th and they kindly offered to speak on the following three topics, so a meeting has eventuated. My apologies for the short notice. Here are the details: There will be a meeting of Koha Users on Monday June 30th @ 5.00pm. It will be held at the Melbourne Athenaeum Library Ist Floor 188 Collins St Melbourne 3000 Tel: 03 9650 3100 Website: http://melbourneathenaeum.org.au/ There will be a presentation by Irma and Bob Birchall on the following topics: Koha and Libraries Australia Authority Control, Koha and RDA and MARC Frameworks, Koha and the Bootstrap Responsive Design for the OPAC. Please let me know if there are any issues you would like to raise and I?ll put together an agenda or feel free to raise them on Monday. I do hope as many people as possible can attend. I won't be able to make it to the meeting as I'll be in Sydney, but I would love to hear how this goes. I'm especially curious to hear thoughts about "Koha and Libraries Australia Authority Control" and "Koha and RDA and MARC Frameworks". As the author of the Z39.50 search for authorities in Koha, I would love to know if people are using it and any ideas they might have for improvements. I'm also quite interested in how people use frameworks and how they'd like frameworks to work. Personally, I'm working a bit on better ways of keeping frameworks current (especially in terms of making sure MARC fields added by RDA are present). For the technically minded, I've created a bug report in the hopes of fostering some discussion about how to improve MARC Frameworks in Koha (http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=12477). Happy to chat more directly with CALYX folk about this too! I'm copying Kathleen Fitzgerald into this email as well, as she's been interested in attending meetings with other Koha librarians in Melbourne. Perhaps someone would be willing to take some notes about the meeting and report back to the listserv for those of us who can't make it to the meeting?
