Good point, I'll see what I can come up with.

I must have left it out. I probably had an empty OpacNav and didn't realize it.

Agree in principle, but I think we break this rule when necessary:
Facets override OpacNav, for instance. OpacNav is hidden on the log in
page and the holds page. We often eliminate OpacNav for actions which
have more "focus," where the page is centered on a specific task.
While the detail page doesn't match this profile as well as logging in
or placing a hold I feel we can bend the rules for this case because
of the disadvantages of having a broken layout.

I'm not comfortable with creating a collapsing navigation menu because
it introduces a new interface option that is outside of most users
expectations. I'd rather have them click the back button or home link
to find OpacNav rather then expect them to collapse the navigation if
they discover the page layout is broken.
