Vitor,

As I told before Ricardo, Marta (a librarian student) and myself have done
near 70% of staff translation.
Are you planning another translation ?
As you may know there is a basic library vocabulary that must be followed
otherwise it will become a "computer expert" translation without a librarian
qualified certification.
If you plan to do so please do not replace actual .po file before portuguese
community agree on terminology

Hi Vitor,

For the 3.0.x versions of Koha, Rafael Ant?nio, Marta Grachat and
myself have contributed at least 70% of the "Staff / Intranet"
Portuguese translation ("pt-PT"), like Rafael Ant?nio has said. In
fact, I believe that, when we "ended" the work, about 95% of the
"staff client" was translated. Most of that work was done in 2009. And
yes, the several "versions" of that translation have been submitted
back then by myself, by e-mail, to Chris Cormack (who was the
Translation Manager until recently), so he could accept the
translation and submit it via "git" to the official (community)
version of Koha (which he did).

If you are interested, you may see the version history of the "pt-PT"
PO file in Git, for the "3.0.x" branch. The "3.0.x" branch has its
"home" in "gitweb" at:

during that time, we "pushed" forward both the OPAC and the staff

OK. I think I have now concluded my "boring History lesson"  ;-)

Anyway, I don't know exactly what parts of the PO files for the OPAC
and Staff of the 3.0.x branch got "merged" for the master branch (the
one that has been used for the 3.2.x versions, until the creation of

"pt-PT" file for staff, it seems to me that the BULK of the work done

- that has been dormant until now, to have those discussions.

We're all busy professionals, so the work done in the translation may
not move as fast as we would like.
But I believe that "Where there's a will, there's a way". Like I
mentioned above, we already proved in the past that was possible!  :)

Dear all,

Everything is said. Now it up with Portuguese community.
For the last 3 years Ricardo and myself tried to push hard for people in
Portugal to make them believe that KOHA was the write solution.
Now a large number of people is already using from Public Administration to
High Education Schools and Municipalities.
But we very few and busy for spend time blaming. Cooperation is the word
from the open source projects and KOHA is one of them. KOHA means 'gift' so
we must have that in mind far from commercial thinking.

Hi all,

I'm using "Koha Virtual Appliance 3.2 ? Configured" and I'm trying to
translate Koha to Portuguese (pt-PT).

But I get an error when I do "perl translate install pt-PT" under
"/home/koha/koha-dev/misc/translator"

The error is:
% s: Unknown or unsupported format specification

I do a little search and see a message saying that "% s" should be "%s", I
edit .po file, replace and save it. But when I run the command again the
error occurred again (it seem to be in other place).

I try the .po files that came with Koha Virtual Appliance and with the
recent translation files. The same occur.

If someone know how to solve this or if anyone can give me a clue I
appreciate it very much.

It means that your .po file's syntax is invalid. Then it breaks the
translation installation process. This can occur when .po files are
translated by hand (not on Pootle).  The person who edit .po files is in
charge and has to verify that his files's syntax is valid. You have to
track those kind of syntax errors and fix them all.

Which version exactly? If you're a translator, you must NOT work on .po
files coming with Koha but you must work on .po files available on:

   http://translate.koha-community.org

And of course, working remotely, you have to coordinate your effort with
other Portuguese translators.

Ivo,

You need to replace all % s with %s. It solves your problem. During
translation some mistakes were done but I have tested it with version 3.2
and it worked.
Any way you can allways download finished translation available from
www.koha-community.org
If you need any help feel free to ask.

Dear Koha Translators,

Today, a bug concerning Spanish translation has been reported by an
user:

   http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=5740

The Spanish staff .po file syntax is invalid in 3.2.3. There is line
containing '%' alone when '%s' is expected. This kind of error sadly
break completely the translation process, stop it and so leave the
language templates partially translated.

So you have to be very cautious when translating '%s'. Do never
translate '%s' with '%', omitting 's'.

problema mant?m-se em qualquer dos casos.

.po originais, penso que nos que estavam no site de tradu??o n?o tinham esse
problema. Mas mais uma vez o erro manteve-se.

Nos testes que tenho feito, notei que quer tenha ficheiros .po dentro da
pasta *"../translator/po"*  quer n?o tenha nenhum ficheiro, quando executo o
comando "*perl translate install pt-PT*" o comportamento ? o mesmo assim
como os erros.

Estou um pouco perdido e j? perdi bastante tempo de volta desta situa??o sem
qualquer resultado... :(

Se me puderem ajudar, ficarei muito agradecido.

Which command do you use to do the translations?

What you can do:

1) go to the OPAC folder Koha_home/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/ and
create a folder named pt_PT (sudo -u koha mkdir pt_PT)

2)  go to the intranet folder
Koha_home/intranet/htdocs/intranet-tmpl/prog/ and create a folder
named pt_PT (sudo -u koha mkdir pt_PT)

3) go to the translations folder Koha_home/misc/translator/ and run
the command to the OPAC translations:

sudo -u koha ./tmpl_process3.pl install -r -i
../../opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/en/ -o
../../opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/pt-PT/ -s
po/pt-PT-i-opac-t-prog-v-3002000.po (or the file downloaded from the
translation site)

4) go to the translations folder Koha_home/misc/translator/ and run
the command to the intranet translations:

sudo -u koha ./tmpl_process3.pl install -r -i
../../intranet/htdocs/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/ -o
../../intranet/htdocs/intranet-tmpl/prog/pt-PT/ -s
po/pt-PT-i-staff-t-prog-v-3002000.po

See if this sequence works for you....

Well, its that time again!

3.2.4 is on track to be released on February 22, 2011, however, there is
another important date between now and then which you should be aware of.

On February 15, 2011, 3.2.4 will enter a string freeze to facilitate
finalization of translation updates. After this date the only patches
introducing string changes which will be pushed for 3.2.4 will be those
addressing blocker bugs or security issues. All others will be pushed to
3.2.5.

Patches not introducing string changes will be pushed up to the time of the
release.

This sequence solve my problem.

I was using the command like the koha wiki says
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Installation_of_additional_languages_for_OPAC_and_INTRANET_staff_client
I'm using Koha 3.2 so I use the command "perl translate install pt-PT".

Fortunately the old way works.

There is already .po files for Bengali on Koha git repository:

   /misc/translator/po/ben-*

Have you tried this translation? Do you want me to upload it on Pootle?
or is it necessary to generate new .po files?

The translations as per the Koha.git tree are not entirely complete as yet.

So please upload it on Pootle.
