Yes, it's still the case:

* Make sure your patron has a firstname, surname and title
* Set NewsAuthorDisplay to "both OPAC and staff interface"
* Create a new news entry, remember to set publication date in the past
* Save
* Verify that the title shows in the staff interface and in the OPAC on the
news entry.

I am no longer sure if this is fully unintentional. Some libraries don't use
the title for Mr. Mrs. etc. but for Prof., Dr. etc. in that case the display
would probably be intended.

And: the title has it's own class for easy hiding.
