I think search query like that should never work as it will always cause ES syntax error, ElasticSearch is a mini-language after all and has it's own syntax and it will die on something like that.

Yes it makes sense.

Though we do need to notify the user, in cases like that, that the search query is incorrect and that they need to correct it and search with it again. I will make a ticket for it a bit later if.
