I agree. It's not a good long-term solution, but inventory.pl has had this problem so long and no one has had time to do a rewrite. I think because inventory is run so rarely it fails to be a priority.
Well. If you use it with some care, you wont get into timeouts.
Corporate proxies become a problem because they will timeout after about 60 seconds. Even with care, libraries will end up with timeouts.
