[Bug 41868] New: Export Catalog Data from List
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 Bug ID: 41868 Summary: Export Catalog Data from List Initiative type: --- Sponsorship --- status: Product: Koha Version: Main Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P5 - low Component: Cataloging Assignee: koha-bugs@lists.koha-community.org Reporter: mnero@oslri.net QA Contact: testopia@bugs.koha-community.org CC: m.de.rooy@rijksmuseum.nl It would be great if in Export Catalog Data, there was an option to export bibs from a list. Additionally (or alternatively) it would great if there was an Export Catalog Data directly from the list screen. At the very least, a quick way to download biblionumbers from a list would save some steps. There have been multiple times that this would have been useful, but my current use case is for identifying bib records that have faulty diacritics (ie. {u1EA3} instead of ậ.) There are dozens of these characters to look for, so I would love to be able to add all the bibs to a list as I come across them and then export it so that I can fix the characters in MarcEdit. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #1 from Katrin Fischer <katrin.fischer@bsz-bw.de> --- Hi Miranda, if you look at a list, there are download options for MARC already. Is that what you were looking for? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #2 from Miranda Nero <mnero@oslri.net> --- Hi Katrin, I tried the download options, but I'm looking to extract the MARC records, and none of those options seem to do that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. My workaround is to run a report on the list contents and get a biblionumber list from that, but it's clunky. This would eliminate a lot of steps. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #4 from Katrin Fischer <katrin.fischer@bsz-bw.de> --- I see it's labelled iso2709 in the staff interface, but that would be the option to give you MARC records. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #5 from Katrin Fischer <katrin.fischer@bsz-bw.de> --- If you are using MarcEdit you might want to change the file ending to .mrc and that should make things work. I think we should fix the name and the file ending to be consistent with other spots MARC records can be downloaded. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #6 from Miranda Nero <mnero@oslri.net> --- Oh, thank you! I tried opening the iso file in MarcEdit and received an error, but I just tested with a different list, and it worked successfully. I think there might have been an invalid record in the other list causing the problem. I think changing the file extension to .mrc would make this clearer. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #7 from Gretchen Maxeiner <maxeinergl@gcc.edu> --- +1 on name and file extension change ; I see the same function is labeled as a "MARC" download in the OPAC. I also had errors in MARCEdit with 2 of the 3 lists I downloaded with this feature, although the same sets extracted via Export Catalog Data were accepted into MARCEdit just fine. This means something is different with this means of extraction. If I can ID what the difference is, I will enter a separate bug on that. I am still in favor of a list option in Export Catalog Data. For staff who do a lot of exporting, this is their regular workflow, and it allows the use of the various export options available there. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. +1 on name and file extension change ; I see the same function is labeled as a "MARC" download in the OPAC.
I've filed a new bug so we can keep this one open for the list: Bug 41885 - Rename iso2709 download option for lists in staff to MARC matching OPAC
If you have an example record where that happens, it would be helpful to have the working and non-working files on a bug report. That could help identify the issue.
I am still in favor of a list option in Export Catalog Data. For staff who do a lot of exporting, this is their regular workflow, and it allows the use of the various export options available there.
Keeping this bug open :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=41868 --- Comment #9 from Gretchen Maxeiner <maxeinergl@gcc.edu> --- I wasn't able to find anything substantive regarding issues with the MARC file generated from the list download. I could isolate individual records that triggered record length errors when loaded into MarcEdit if they were downloaded from a list, but didn't trigger the errors when the file was created via export catalog data. Something is a little bit different about the two MARC generation processes. But I didn't find other instances with much larger test batches after this, so I am not going to pursue a bug on that at this time. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. This would allow users to benefit from all the options available on this page. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.
