[Bug 43897] New: Add more item fields (e.g. materials specified, 952$3) to the label batch edit table
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43897 Bug ID: 43897 Summary: Add more item fields (e.g. materials specified, 952$3) to the label batch edit table Initiative type: --- Sponsorship --- status: Product: Koha Version: 25.11 Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P5 - low Component: Label/patron card printing Assignee: chris.nighswonger@veritassuperaitsolutions.com Reporter: sam.young@bywatersolutions.com QA Contact: testopia@bugs.koha-community.org Target Milestone: --- On the label batch edit page (Tools > Label creator > Manage > Label batches > Edit, labels/label-edit-batch.pl), the table of items in a batch shows these fixed columns: Label number, Summary (title / author), Item type, Call number, Barcode, Actions, and Select. These columns are hardcoded in labels/label-edit-batch.pl. The data comes from C4::Creators::Lib::get_label_summary(), which only selects title and author from biblio and itemtype/itype, barcode and itemcallnumber from items. Libraries can't add other item data to the table, either through table settings or with JavaScript, because that data never reaches the page. Use case: Some libraries use item fields to drive spine or genre stickers. For example, one library fills 952$3 (Materials specified, items.materials) automatically from genre headings and uses that value to decide which genre sticker goes on each item. Staff work from the label batch table while they attach stickers, but they can't see 952$3 there. They have to look each item up separately. Proposed enhancement: 1. Add items.materials (Materials specified) to the label batch table, either as its own column or as part of the Summary cell. 2. Better still, add other commonly useful item fields too, such as location, ccode, enumchron, itemcallnumber parts, and itemnotes. Make the table configurable through 3. Table settings (columns_settings), so each library can show or hide columns as it needs. Test plan (once a patch exists): Create or edit an item and set 952$3 (Materials specified). Go to Tools > Label creator > Manage > Label batches and add that item to a batch. Edit the batch. Confirm the new Materials specified column or data appears for the item. If table settings are added, confirm the column can be hidden or shown under Administration > Table settings. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43897 --- Comment #1 from Sam Young <sam.young@bywatersolutions.com> --- On the label batch edit page (Tools > Label creator > Manage > Label batches > Edit, labels/label-edit-batch.pl), the table of items in a batch shows these fixed columns: Label number, Summary (title / author), Item type, Call number, Barcode, Actions, and Select. Proposed enhancement: Add a new "Materials specified" column to the label batch edit table that shows items.materials (952$3) for each item. Put it after Call number, or wherever fits best. This means: adding i.materials to the query in get_label_summary() and returning it with the rest of the label data adding the column to $display_columns in labels/label-edit-batch.pl A possible follow-up would be to register the table in Table settings (columns_settings), so libraries that don't use 952$3 can hide the column. Test plan (once a patch exists): Create or edit an item and set 952$3 (Materials specified) to some value. Create or edit another item and leave 952$3 empty. Go to Tools > Label creator > Manage > Label batches and add both items to a batch. Edit the batch. Confirm there is a new "Materials specified" column. The first item should show its 952$3 value, and the second item's cell should be empty. Confirm the existing columns (Summary, Item type, Call number, Barcode) still display correctly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Create or edit an item and set 952$3 (Materials specified) to some value 2. Create or edit another item and leave 952$3 empty 3. Go to Tools > Label creator > Manage > Label batches and add both items to a batch 4. Edit the batch and note there is no Materials specified column 5. Apply patch, restart_all 6. Reload the batch edit page 7. Confirm there is a new "Materials specified" column after Call number: - The first item shows its 952$3 value - The second item's cell is empty 8. Confirm the other columns (Summary, Item type, Call number, Barcode, Actions, Select) still display and sort correctly 9.
