You go into the Authorities module and choose one of your authorities, open it in the editor, go to "Settings" and under "Change authority type", you choose the authority type you want to use. You also need to make sure that you're using your authority in a field where the $9 is going to be indexed into the Koha-Auth-Number index (for Zebra). Note that Koha allows you to create extra authority types, but only the core types are fully functional. For instance, I don't think updates to non-core authority types flow out to the bib records.
