David, Books might or might not be listed with a UPC in the U.S. I think the de-facto standard is to use EAN(ISBN-10 or ISBN-13), and *possibly* UPC as well. Things like mass market paperbacks are more likely to have UPC, a quality paperback book is less likely to have UPC. ... but magazines, CDs and DVDs most likely will have a UPC code. Looking at my bookshelf now to see if I have any American books. All the Australian, Canadian, and European books I have only use ISBN barcodes.
