We a French non profit voluntary association that promotes ecological construction. We are funded by our members and do not accept advertising. We try to provide factual unbiased information.
We are looking for a solution (economical) to put our ecological database (basically a catalogue) of products and service suppliers on the internet as a searchable database. The database is Oracle 7,3 done by a friend of a friend, but we cannot put it on the web, because of licensing costs and the developments costs required.
Perhaps it may be able for us to modify Koha to do this with mysql? I am unsure how much we can change it... so this email.
Our category listing is six layers deep, we have product information and service information and company information. We require multiple criteria searching for example:
1. Select region Departement, Region, France, Etranger/Foreign, Tout/All
for products manufactured in Germany but with a distributor in France the distributor would be listed and the fabricant referenced in the Company info query.
2.a Select Category listing Product or Service ex. Walls & Ceilings>Ceilings>Gypsum
or b. Product or Service name eg Heraklith 2
or c.Company Name eg BPB Placo the fabricant would be referenced in the the Company info report
the listing for Items b. and c. would probably have to be generated on the fly from the database or easily updated every week. The category listing would be very rarely altered.
What do you think. We do not require client tracking, ordering, or visual images from a database it simply is a catalogue for unbiased (we think) information.
