Its not really any less dangerous in a database sense.
Its less dangerous in a library sense. That is, if the worst that you can do if
you get someones username and password is place some reserves for them, well its
not to bad.
If you can start cancelling their reserves, renewing books (some libraries
including HLT charge for issuing/renewing certain items) you can be much more
annoying.
This is the main reason .. it was done this way because ppl forget to logout of
the opacs at libraries a lot.

If we were to do it, I think it should be done as a parameter that can be
toggled on or off per library. Depending on what stance they wish to take.
