Yeah, they worked on Ubuntu 14.10 last I looked. I'm in the process of making a
new set for Debian Jessie.

As for the deprecated bits, there are some issues there that make it not quite
worth messing with the new versions just yet. Check out the discussion thread

There should be very few, if any, API changes as the result of switching to the
new version when it's suitable, too.
