Also called persistent identifier (PI or PID). 
Al those PIDs (ARK, DOI, Handle, PURL) don't exclude each other.

Frédéric Demians wrote about ARK on Koha, using a local syspref called
ARK_CONF:

The record ID should be chosen carefully, maybe related 1-to-1 to (003)001
since biblionumber are volatile (could change, is a system-related ID)
