Nevermind... the problem was Memcached. As soon as I cleared Memcached, the new
koha-conf.xml settings were taken up, and now Koha is using the Unix socket
instead of the TCP socket.

So now I'm curious... Olli-Antti Kivilahti, why are you using a MySQL socket in
a path that your local MySQL client library doesn't know?
