A few comments:

Lots of hard work in that patch, but the transition to
Template::Toolkit makes it obsolete. We'll need to re-evaluate what
the right solution is now.

Sounds interesting, but won't apply since the Harley repo has never
been updated.

A couple of different solutions have been proposed for this one. It
would be great to get more eyes on it.

We always urge people to upgrade when we hear they're on 2.x. This is
a pretty old patch, but it sounds like it's worth looking at!
