Greetings,

No to be a stick in the mud, party pooper, wet blanket, or some other idiom, 
but...
daemon is a Debian-based linux command. I suspect several of the problems 
you are encountering are because you are using a Red-Hat-based linux (a 
little support?). Is there no way for you to go with Debian (most support) 
or Ubuntu (some support), Sander?

If I run this command I get this error:

[root at host /]# /usr/share/koha/bin/koha-zebra-ctl.sh start
Starting Zebra Server
/usr/share/koha/bin/koha-zebra-ctl.sh: line 73: daemon: command not found


I'm on Centos 6
