First, the thread you pointed to has nothing to do with an installation on Debian Squeeze, so it does not apply to you.
Second, you said you are trying to install on Debian Squeeze, which is the recommended OS, but you didn’t tell us which instructions you followed to install?
Did you follow: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.8_on_Debian_Squeeze?
These are the official instructions for Koha on Debian. I agree with MJ Ray that it sounds like an installation problem.
