you enclose only "Items" between <span>..</span>, but not "Item" and "overdue
as of", that's deliberate?

The original string was
  msgid "%s %sItems%sItem%s overdue as of %s%s "
and the new one
  msgid "%sItem%s overdue as of %s%s "
