I'm getting
Wide character in compress at /usr/share/perl5/PDF/Reuse.pm line 825.
errors when I try to use label printing with utf-8 characters (with or without this patch).
So this patch makes things no worse, and fixes them in one case? Is it possible to do a follow up which can do decode,or encode depending on certain conditions. Or better yet fix the encoding in other places and then a patch here to switch to encode. If this patch is not breaking anything more, and is fixing things in one case, it certainly isn't a regression, and so I see no need to revert it.
