I added bug 27451 for tracking lang field split. I do think we could try to test and merge this, before we can continue on following reports...

I am with you there, I think we could start with this one and will have an easier time adding more onto it later. @Martin - could you be a bit more specific about the things you were worrying about in comment#65?
