Not a bug : From all the results in a search with keyword "the*" filtered with (Books OR CR) AND (Fiction OR Non-fiction), none of them have any items with the itemtype "CR". You could see that by looking at the missing facet "CR" in the facets list. So, if you remove the "Books", that leaves with only keyword "the*" and filter "itemtype:CR AND (ccode:Fiction OR ccode:Non-fiction), which indeed has no results. If you check on plain koha without the patch ("cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?idx=kw&q=the*&sort_by=relevance&count=20&limit=itype:CR") you'll see none of the results are either Fiction or Non-fiction.
